Farm Lane is a care home that provides personal care and nursing care for up to 66 older people who may be living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 46 people using the service, of which 41 were receiving personal care. We contacted 10 healthcare professionals for their views. The assessment was carried out by 1 assessor. During the assessment we spoke with 9 people or their relatives, and 14 care staff for their feedback about the service.
We assessed 14 quality statements and found people received a safe service that was delivered by professional, competent, and well-trained staff. The provider recruited staff appropriately, and people were enabled, and supported to take acceptable risks in an encouraging, and proactive way which enhanced their quality of life. This also reduced the risk of social isolation. Staff supported people by teamwork, and providing joined up, integrated care. This included the involvement of, and liaising with external healthcare professionals. The provider had a person centred approach to care that was cascaded down to staff and promoted, and maintained, an integrated approach to service delivery, which recognised people as individuals, and enhanced their independence. They were provided with choices regarding the service they received, and control over how they received it. The care home sought people’s consent to treatment, and they were encouraged, and supported to maintain healthy diets. The support provided was monitored to encourage improved outcomes for people. People, and their relatives said the service was very well managed, and people were treated with kindness, and compassion, by staff. They were recognised as individuals, ensuring they received equitable service experiences. The service was well led, had good governance, and effective monitoring systems. At the last assessment, the service was rated overall requires improvement with requires improvement in well-led, and good in safe, effective, caring, and responsive. At this assessment, the rating has improved to overall good, with good in safe, caring, responsive, and well led.
